—McKenzie’s account with his trek appeared in 1801. Since then, despite its recognition by authorities as a primary document of western Americana, it has never been published properly annotated edition.
This present contains the journal’s 1801 text with annotations prepared by an editor who personally has been over much of the route, McKenzie followed. In addition to an introduction, summarizing the development of the trade and western travel to McKenzie‘s time, there is a brief outline of the great explorer. The places, the Indian tribes, plants, and wildlife that McKenzie noted have been carefully identified. An appendix has the day today itinerary of McKenzie‘s journey, field notes have been taken by the editor during the trip, in which he retraced McKenzie steps, discussion of the journals provenance.
