Introduced by Albert Bigelow Paine, Twain s close friend and literary executor, the book encapsulates the freedom Twain felt in sharing his thoughts without restriction, knowing the work wouldn't be published until after his death. These volumes consist of around two-fifths of Twain s unpublished writings, weaving together multiple starts and stops of autobiography attempts, and creating a rich tapestry of the iconic author s life as seen through his own eyes.
