Lost Plays of Eugene O’Neill 1958 Unauthorized Edition & 1964 Authorized Edition Ten Lost Plays Vintage Hardcovers in Original Dust Jackets
<Condition is Good+ as Pictured> (normal wear with markings, toning, visible edge-wear, small gash to the spine & name written on title page of the unauthorized Lost Plays)
*Unauthorized— The first printing by Citadel Press. Nobel & Pulitzer winner Eugene O'Neill (1888 - 1953) arrives at the Wharf Theatre, Provincetown, MA in 1916 w/a trunkful of plays. "Bound East for Cardiff" was immediately staged. The remaining "trunkful" lay hidden for years as the playright's new works received acclaim.
This volume contains those lost works, all written 1913 to 1915, and all non-royalty plays and very stageable. They are: 1, Abortion; 2, The Movie Man; 3, The Sniper; 4, Servitude, Acts I, II & III; and, 5, A Wife for Life.
First edition of this title by this publisher, published originally in 1950 by New Fathoms. Both that, and this edition were unauthorized and Random House published *Ten "Lost" Plays* to fill the void. A lovely copy of an uncommon edition.
*Authorized—The ten plays in this collection (A Wife for a Life, Thirst, The Web, Warnings, Fog, Recklessness, Abortion, The Movie Man, Servitude, and The Sniper) were all written in the very earliest part of O’Neill’s career, from 1913 to 1915, and were (and still are) all overshadowed by the numerous masterpieces O’Neill wrote ...
These ten works show the creative mind of a young dramatist practicing his art -- trying to find the means of expression for the passionately experienced themes that dominated his thought.
