Specifically, it follows the evolution of Holmesian portraiture in England and the United States over a period of 60 years--from the very first portrait by D.H. Friston in 1887 to an advertisement for Basil Rathbone's movie, Hound of the Baskervilles in 1939, with an Introduction by Vincent Starrett & 65 illustrations accompanying the text.
