—The Fourth Edition of the ANTHOLOGY OF CHILDREN's LITERATURE, with more than 750 stories and poems, presents within the compass of one volume a complete sampling of the best of literature for the growing child. It has been extensively revised to take account of the past decade's new directions in children's literature and also of the greater maturity and experience of today's child.

Here still are Mother Goose rhymes, old ballads, chants and jingles from the nursery. Here too, are folktales from 26 countries, fables from Acop to Thurber, myths and legends of the Greeks, Romans, North American Indians, and excerpts from the Norse Edda. As well, there is the rich selection of the writings that appeared in earlier editions of the anthology, old favorites such as Laura Ingalls Wilder, Marcia Brown and Meindert De Jong.

And this extensively reset 1970 edition is enriched by 130 new selections, representing 78 authors and 40 poets. Many sections have been completely reorganized and others have expanded introductory essays. Included now are a number of more recent Newbery-winning authors such as Lloyd Alexander, E. L. Konigs-burg and Scott O'Dell. Included also are other important writers of children's literature: Marie HalEt, Lucy Boston, C. S. Lewis, Jean George and a host of others.
